Westly Consulting opened its doors on April 18th, 2005 and the past two years have been busy and fulfilling. While the client list continues to grow, my primary goal continues to be a tailored firm which seeks to give union and progressive clients the personalized attention each deserves.

Combining more than a decade of Legislative campaign experience, including several years spent directing communications and political action with the California Professional Firefighters, I was fortunate to start Westly Consulting with two great clients, then-Attorney General Bill Lockyer and the United Firefighters of Los Angeles City.

During the first year, Westly Consulting helped beat back the Governor’s attack on working families: Proposition 75. Next, in the 2006 primary election, efforts were focused on independent expenditure coordination for the California Alliance, (a progressive team of environmentalists, consumer attorneys and nurses) – and, among other races, aided in two upset victories in State Senate primaries.

At the beginning of our second year in business, Westly Consulting established a new downtown office, across the street from the State Capitol, at 1127 11th street. The suite of office spaces is shared with Christy Bouma of Capitol Connection – a firm specializing in legislative advocacy for working families.

In addition to coalition building efforts, Westly Consulting also worked on a variety of local independent expenditure campaigns throughout the state, including mail, radio, TV, phone and field campaigns. (On behalf of the Alameda County Building Trades Council, numerous firefighter locals, VOTA 100% / Unite-Here, Consumers for Responsible Government, and executing the member to member communications for the Alameda County Central Labor Council.)

Most recently, Westly Consulting spearheaded the press campaign to defeat the ill-conceived “Arena Tax” in Sacramento (Measures Q&R). This underdog effort was outspent by over a million dollars, but through a creative and unyielding earned media strategy, Measures Q&R were successfully defeated 80% to 20%.

Looking forward, the goal remains the same. Westly Consulting works with clients that advocate for working families and other progressive issues, in support of candidates and issues I truly believe in, and continue to put a priority on personalized attention for my clients.
